Nauset vs Barnstable

Image
If we had arrived 15 seconds after the ref dropped the puck to start the game, we would have missed Nauset's first goal. As it turned out Nauset scored five more goals and shut out Barnstable 6-0. These kids can really skate! The Arena was probably sold out judging from the size of the crowd. The people really support their local teams. Parents, grandparents, 2 year olds, all sizes and ages. The downside is that you need to pick your seats strategically, e.g., out of harms way. If you sit in the first row there is always some teenager crawling over you to  head to the refreshment stand for some fries. I have to admit aside from the game it was entertaining, especially the young guy dressed in a pink suit ...really... and the teenage ladies all made up and strutting their stuff. It kind of took me back to my high school days at Passaic, except for the pink suit . Haven't quite figured that out yet. Mike's biggest question, as an educator, wanted to know why all these kids w...

Rambling

It doesn't seem very fair that we have to wait to celebrate Honest Abe's birthday until next Monday and to add insult to injury, it has to be shared with George Washington. Well, three-day weekends have become very popular so we gathered the two gentlemen's birthdays, put them together and came up with a three-day weekend. I suppose there is some advantage to having three days in a row off rather than one in the middle of the week. We've become very creative. George Washington's actual birthday, on the other hand, falls on a Saturday this year which we probably would have celebrated on the previous Friday. So the question remains, had we left things as they were would it have been better to get two days off whenever they fell on the calendar, or is one three day the better choice when added to the weekend?  I think I would prefer the single days off. You may be wondering why am I even writing about this? Since everyone in retirement has everyday off to do as they pl...

Release the Budweiser Clydesdales

Image
Well it's finally over. It was like listening to someone dragging their fingernails over a blackboard. I kept  asking myself, "will this torture ever end?" It was a blow out that would not seem to ever end. No,  not the Super Bowl game, the halftime show. It took me 10 seconds to switch over to The Weather Channel & QVC. Will someone please release the Clydesdales to clear the field? Are we ever going to get back to Justin Timberlake exposing Janet Jackson's ta tas, aka,  Nipplegate! Anyway, the game was also a blow out. Now we need to see how long it will take the Taylor Swift Travis Kelce duo to go down in flames. Too bad, such a nice couple.  Coming up next, March Madness to get us through the remainder of the winter. Watch out for Houston. Looks as though Saturday's snowfall will be around for a while, judging from the temps. Whatever happened to "It never snows on Cape Cod!" /prs ("Life is Good!")

Sightings from the Poop Deck

It's February 8, 2025 and we're hunkering down awaiting our first really significant snowfall of the 2024/2025 winter season. I have been fortunate this winter. The recent snowfalls have been a very light powder so I was able to use my Echo leaf blower to clean off the walkways and my truck. I don't know how closely "Brewster's Finest" will monitor and enforce cleaning the snow off your vehicle, but I'm not taking any chances. On a trip to Florida I once saw a very large slab of ice come off the roof of a tractor trailer, which could have done some real damage. Fortunately it did nor hit any vehicles. Speaking of Florida, I really miss those trips and many friends down in Fort Myers. After 15+ years our vacations south ended with the COVID outbreak in 2020. That was the year all beaches, pools, restaurants and churches closed and to top it all off, you couldn't buy a roll of toilet paper. That was nasty. Don't ever remember having to stand in line ...
